Here at Oatlands Dental Lounge we can perform regenerative procedures that create sufficient and healthy bone to support dental implants, and help the implant site to heal faster after surgery.

Bone grafting

One of the problems that can accompany missing teeth is jawbone reduction, which can affect the quantity and quality of bone for an implant to sit in. Fortunately, it’s possible to undergo a procedure known as a bone graft, which aims to create new and strong bone, allowing you to have treatment with dental implants. Without sufficient, strong, and healthy bones, this is not possible.

During your initial consultation with us, Dr Neil Paryani will use our state-of-the-art CT scanner to assess the health of your jawbone. Should he identify the need for a bone graft, he will proceed by advising on the most suitable grafting technique for your unique case

Sinus lift

It’s not uncommon for a sinus lift treatment to be required prior to the placement of dental implants. This safe and effective technique replaces lost or deficient bone in the area around the sinuses, which are empty air-filled cavities that exist either side of your nose; in the back part of the upper jaw.

The bone around the sinuses is often less dense than at other sites across your jawbone, and bone loss after losing a tooth can result in a reduction of the bone height, to the point where it is not able to accommodate the stabilisation for an implant without additional intervention. Your natural tooth roots have an essential role in providing stimulation to the jawbone, encouraging it to create new cells. When these roots become lost, this vital stimulation can no longer occur, resulting in the bone shrinking away, a process called resorption.

With a sinus lift, it’s possible to replace this lost bone with new, healthy, strong bone that will support implants. While a sinus lift is a surgical procedure, it is relatively straightforward and commonly carried out. As with any procedure we carry out here at Oatlands Dental Lounge, we will make sure you’re completely comfortable before anything goes ahead.

Digital imaging tests will confirm if your sinuses are suitable for treatment. Should the graft warrant only a minor procedure, we are able to place the bone and the implants on the same day. Alternatively, there may be a 3–9-month healing period, after which the bone will be suitable for the placement of dental implants.

PRGF

PRGF (plasma rich in growth factors) can significantly speed up the healing process after a dental implant has been placed, allowing you to enjoy the benefits of a newly restored smile, sooner.

During the dental implant placement process, a small incision is carefully made in the gum and the bone that sits directly below. This induces a natural healing response, which can be accelerated through the use of PRGF.

This regenerative treatment involves taking a small sample of your blood and isolating the platelets, which are one of the body’s vital regenerative cells. By harnessing the restorative properties that platelets possess by administering them to the area of bone and gum around the implant, we trigger a faster healing response, reduce inflammation and pain, and lower the risk of infection, in a safe and effective manner. PRGF is a technique widely used in reconstructive, cardiac, maxillofacial and plastic surgery.
