Whether you experience mild or severe anxiety or whether your nervousness is apparent or masked by false bravado, we want you to know that every member of our team is deeply sensitive to your fears.
We want you to have the most positive treatment experience possible and, to that end, we offer a number of treatment approaches and options to help you relax and be fear and stress-free throughout your treatment.
Understanding your treatment plan, the procedures that will be used and the steps involved, as well as the anticipated outcome, can do much to alleviate apprehension and allow you to feel in control and less fearful about your recommended dental care. Your dentist will thoroughly explain each aspect of your treatment plan and what to expect throughout – and will answer all your questions and address your concerns, especially regarding your anxiety and the need for anaesthetics or sedation therapies.
We can help minimise this anxiety by using topical anaesthetics that can be applied before an injection to greatly reduce any injection discomfort. Additionally, we offer carefully dosed local anaesthetics that will safely and completely numb the treatment area.
For our patients who suffer substantial anxiety, we offer sedation therapy, used in conjunction with standard pain relief medications, for the most complete approach to patient comfort. Sedation therapy may also be recommended by your dentist for extensive treatment procedures. Sedation treatments can be a wonderful, fear-relieving care option for people suffering from anxiety about their dental treatment.
The effects of Intravenous conscious sedation therapy, or IV sedation, are not to be confused with a general anaesthetic, which produces a deep sleep. Intravenous sedation induces a state of deep relaxation, not unconsciousness. The drugs used for Intravenous sedation can produce effects that mimic slight memory loss, giving the perception that treatment time seems to ‘fly’ by. Often patients feel as though they have ‘slept’ through their procedure, however, during treatment patients are able to respond to questions and are aware of their surroundings throughout. Due to the depth of this induced state of relaxation, we request you have someone with you to escort you safely home following your treatment.
Our dentists have specific experience in administrating such sedation and are well experienced in using proven medications and techniques to ensure you have a safe, comfortable sedation therapy experience.
